Since 1954 - - - - My first job after Graduating from Greendale, was
working as a Clerk Typist for the Barg & Foster Candy Co. in Milwaukee.
I worked there until for about two years, until getting married to
Ronald Miller in February of 1956. We then moved to our first home
together, an apartment in Waterford, WI. Shortly after getting
married, I began a new job with the Mischka Company in Burlington as a
Typist, creating Technical Manuals for the Government; this work
continued until the company relocated to Ohio about a year and a half
later. I moved on to similar work at the J.I. Case company in Racine,
this time doing typing and doing layout for their parts manuals. Our
first son (Randy) was born in 1961, and as we had agreed, I became a
stay at home mom, but did some part time work from the home. After
our first son was born, we decided it was time for our own home, so I
helped my husband (of course with assorted contractor and family
members assisting) to build our home, which we moved into fall of 1962
and where we have lived ever since. Our second son (Warren) was born
in late 1964, I was now kept very busy raising two boys, following them
in things at school and church, and assisting in a variety of other
activities, including being an active "Den Mother" for the boys while
they were in Cub Scouts. Plus enjoyed helping out with church
activities, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many
years. As the boys grew older, I became more involved with the Ladies
ministries and served as President of several Women's groups,
eventually coordinating activities for over 8 other churches. As the
years passed, life was not all work, and we did some family traveling
with our small plane (as my husband had his Private Pilots License and
we owned various airplanes over the years) flying to Florida and other
destinations around the country. In later years, my husband and I have
enjoyed a variety of other special "flying experiences" including a Hot
Air Balloon ride, and a few years later an exhilarating Sailplane ride
while on vacation in Arizona. We have also enjoyed non-flying
activities, including an Alaska Cruise and Train trip. After my husband
retired from his job we enjoyed additional vacations, now accompanied
by our two grandsons. But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. Many
other events occurred in between, including moving my parents back to
South Dakota in 1980 (where we moved from way back in 1952). Plus, in
the intervening years, I worked at the Airplane Factory owned by my
younger brother (who graduated from Greendale in 1960), at first with
duties in the office and then, thinking it would be fun to actually help
"create" the airplanes themselves, doing what is called "fabric work" on
the elevators, rudders, wings and fuselages -- and finally switching to
the "finish-work" of adding the final striping around the N letters and
Starburst paint patterns; what a nice feeling to see the final work when
customers arrived to pick up their new "prize" possessions, and to know
that my work on those 100's of airplanes will endure for many decades
as they fly through the United States and indeed in countries around
the world. I currently enjoy helping out with the Church Library and
assisting with elections at the Voting Polls in the Town of Norway. And
recently I have begun bowling again with the Morning Ladies Group
once a week. Recently, Ronald and I celebrated our 52nd Anniversary
on February 18, 2008, and we feel blessed with our two sons and one
daughter-in-law, and our two Grandsons. We both have our health and
give thanks to God for all the things he has done for us and given us
these past 50 some years.
