Retired from Trivent Financial Married to Judy 2 Children, 3 Stepchildren 4 Grand-children 5 Stepgranchildren |
In January, 1955 Bob Drefahl and I enlisted in the army under the buddy system. (Ha! What a joke that is, the buddy system that is.) Bob ended up in Alaska and I went to France. Army life was good to me. I played football and softball and eventually ended up managing the enlisted men's club. When my tour of duty ended, I went back to school and graduated with an associate degree in business administration. I married in December 1958 and seven years later was blessed with a daughter Pam, seven years later another daughter, Heidi, and seven years later was divorced. (Something about that seven year itch). Anyway, after I graduated I went to work for Midland Cooperative as Petroleum Manager and eventually General Manager assigned to Hales Corners outlet. In 1966 I left Midland and bought a Portable Generator Franchise. (Not a good move.) After a short period of time I needed money and sold insurance for Aid Assoc. for Lutherans. Then in 1970 I went to work at Cenex Cooperative in Racine. WI. as General Manager and in 1972 bought a True Value hardware store in Fort Atkinson, WI. That lasted until 1977 when my wife and I separated. I sold the store and went back to selling insurance and securities for Aid Assoc. for Lutherans ( Thrivent Financial) in Watertown, WI. In 1984 I was appointed District Manager and in 1987 General Manager, my territory being Jefferson, Rock Walworth, Kenosha and half of Racine County with the agency office in Janesville. In 1990 I had most of Milwaukee County added to the agency and eventually ended up with 58 representatives. I read a quote once, I believe by Winston Churchill, who said, "Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasum". I retired in October 1997, stayed on for 6 months as a consultant, then hung it up in April, 1998. My wife Judy and I, whom I married in 1981, do some traveling, been in all 50 states except Oregon and Alaska, traveled to Europe and the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific. My youngest daughter, Heidi, after college, joined the Peace Corps, served two years in Zimbabwe, Africa. She taught school in American Samoa for a few years. Heidi now lives with her family in Greendale in a Greendale original. Oldest daughter, Pam, is married to a minister and now resides in Fond du Lac. I have a step-daughter who lives in Michigan (U.P.) another step-daughter in Oahu, Hawaii, and a step-son in North Carolina. I have five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. Judy and I still live in Janesville, love Wisconsin (except for four months of the year). I play some golf, workout at the athletic club, stand around at the club and watch the gals work out, throw some water on my face to make it look like I'm sweating. LIFE IS GOOD! |
