I was awarded a scholarship to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) to become an Electronic Engineer. I Graduated from MSOE with a technician degree and an electronic engineering degree in 1958. The Draft Board was after my butt starting in January 1958. They eventually indicated they would get me right after I graduated. With this hanging over my head, I decided to apply for Air Force fighter training. I got drafted into the US Army in June 1958. The USAF orders came to the Army basic training company officer and we decided to trash them since Army training was about one-half over and I knew where I was going to be assigned. During my Army career of two years, I worked as an electronic engineer with about 200 other drafted engineers at Redstone Arsenal which was the home of 100 German missile designers' that were captured during World II. These Germans were led by Werner Von Braun . They all became American citizens before leading approximately 30,00 civilians and military in the design of the first American ballistic missile (JUPITER). In my spare time, four of us explored several caves in and around Huntsville, Alabama. Met my wife shortly after the Army tour, we got married in 1962 and preceded to have one boy and three girls. Worked on the APOLLO/Saturn V booster that took the astronauts to the moon and Lunar experiments for 14 years. Some of the most significant items I worked included: - Saturn V booster Destruct System and Stage separation system. - Worked on several lunar experiments . - Assisted in the design of the Lunar Rover vehicle that enabled the astronauts to move around on the moon. - Using the empty third stage of the Saturn V, the US deployed the worlds first space station called SKYLAB. This work effort took me to almost all the USA states and a huge number of contractors. The space program came to an end in approximately 1973. I went to work for the USAF Technical Intelligence Organization at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. I ran a branch of 25 radar analyst in the reverse engineering of enemy fighter radar systems. The intelligence we learned helped in successful jamming of the enemy system. In this position I got to work directly with this nation's leading radar designers. I retired from the USAF in 1998. Joy was not to be had since in a routine physical two weeks before Christmas 1998 I was assessed to have cancer. In June 1998, I was treated in California with Proton radiation. I have been Cancer free for over ten years. During last ten years I lost my oldest sister Doreen (Greendale Class of 1957) to breast cancer, my mother and my Dad. Dad actually help build the village and worked in the village through 1956. For about one year, I helped our sister village of GREENHILLS, OHIO in trying to obtain their village statues from the US government. This effort gave me the opportunity to meet the historians from Greenhill's and Greendale. I found their statues standing in front of the Dayton Art museum (my daughter is the leading artist at this museum). But the government never paid for the statues and refuses to do so. At the present time, this legal case is the laughing stock of the legal world. After documenting my efforts, I got out of this research project. Traveled to the Grand Canyon , Virgin Islands, Arizona, Iron mountain Michigan, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Niagara Falls and Victoria, Canada. During 2007, John Nowicki and I came to the conclusion that we are first cousins. At the request of the Franklin Historical society, I have bee providing information on the town regarding name of the original farms and pictures of these farms. CHERISHED AWARDS - My name is included in the Apollo/Saturn program book that resides in the Smithsonian Institute. - My name is included in the Congressional Record for supporting congressional personnel in the definition of the threat to this country. |
