Since 1954. Married/one child. After being released from the Air Force in 1957 with two and a half years service in Alaska as an aircraft mechanic, I returned to Hales Corners and worked (at the Majestic and Granada theatres) while attending Milwaukee Vocational school to learn printing. We had three movies at the Granada in six months "The Ten Commandments", "The Bells of St Marys" and Bridget Bardot's first US movie "Mademoiselle Striptease" at the Granada and "River Quai" at the Majestic. After printing school and an apprenticeship, I worked as a International Typographical Union Printer for 25 years on Large and some small newspapers in San Jose, CA, San Francisco, Seattle, Port Angeles Wash, Madison, Milwaukee, Peoria Ill, St Louis, Mo, Chicago, Detroit, Hayward Ca.,and Sacramento CA. While in Sacramento I attended Sacramento State College and by 1972 I had laboriously earned a BS in biology (conservation) with some graduate work. When I lost my printers job to strike breakers in 1978, My BS in biology qualified me for employment with the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (the same ones involved with the ecoli outbreaks and meat recalls). While with the USDA I worked/lived (not just visited) in, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, China Town (San Francisco), New York City, Greenwich Village, Harlem. Long Island, Dodge City, S. Bernardino, S. Cruz, Monterey, Carson City & Las Vegas, Nev, Phoenix, Tucson, Oklahoma City, Calexico and El Centro, CA + + +. I retired in 1997 from the USDA independently wealthy (or so I thought). Lest you think that I acquired my wanderlust after high school, I attended 2 kindergartens, 2 grade schools, 4 high schools and 6 colleges or universities. I recently ( in the past 10 years) discovered I have both AADD and dyslexia plus color blindness. Which may explain the traveling. I've skied Mt McKinley, surfed in S. Cruz, SCUBA'd Puget Sound long before Lloyd Bridges "Sea Hunt" made it popular, shot the Elwa (WA) Rapids, Lived in a houseboat on Lake Union in WA, (similar to the one in "Sleepless in Seattle") went to top of the World Trade Center, Empire State Bldg, Statue of Liberty and Seattle Space Needle. I rode the Monorail during the ‘62 Seattle's Worlds Fair, hunted moose in Canada, goats/sheep in AL, deer in WA, WI, NV, CA, OK, ID. Worked in the Lake Tahoe/Reno, Carson City, NV, area for 7 years. Conversationally I have met Doris Day, John Wayne, Leonard Nimoy, Kim Novak, Toni Tennille, and Peggy Lee. Saw live shows with Wayne Newton, Mel Tillis, Peggy Lee and many others. I saw one of Bob Hopes USO Alaska shows and saw the start of the Iditarod dogsled race while in Alaska during the Fur Rendezvous before the big Alaskan earthquake. I Drove down the ALCAN highway, an adventure in itself. I Built and licensed the only 1982 MG-TD in existence and drove it to Guadalajara, Mex. Built an airplane, licensed and flew it. I drove the original route 66 from Chicago to California when it was a two lane road, long before the movie ( but had no Corvette). Survived being run over by a Semi Truck in Grants, New Mexico, being struck by lightning in Indiana and bitten by a copperhead snake in Missouri. Three lives gone only six to go. Current health: I am still growing taller, at least I think I am. My hair is staying the same place and I am growing thru it. At least that is the reason I give for the thinning thatch on top of my head. I have two Abdominal Aorta Stents, a pacemaker, a bad knee from getting bowled over like a ten pin, by a cows head thrown on a slaughter house floor, a repaired torn shoulder ligament and somewhat overweight. Other than that I think I am in pretty good health. I am currently living in Oklahoma maintaining a two acre yard with a pontoon boat in the driveway. I am still unsuccessfully trying to teach worms how to swim. My wife, Martha and I currently own 3 adjoining building lots in San Antonio Matute, a small town about 30 miles west of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Eventually we plan on building a home there. |
