Hunting and Fishing
Fellow 1954 Classmates

After graduating from Greendale High I attended Ripon College
(mostly for the nearby duck hunting) and then transferred to the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where I received my degree
in mechanical engineering. I later received a masters in engineering
science from Penn State.

We got married in 1959 and Mary Ann and I have raised three
outstanding kids and boast eight brilliant and beautiful grandchildren.

Since leaving Wisconsin we have lived in Massachusetts, California,
and Pennsylvania before settling in God's Country here in Traverse
City, Michigan. We have lived in Traverse City for over 40 years and
it is here that I morphed from an engineer to a building contractor
and land developer and now to retirement.

Of the five companies I have worked for before venturing out on my
own. Only Boeing has survived my employment. The rest have all gone
out of business. I think Boeing is lucky I worked for them for only a
few years.

All of our kids are doing well. My youngest daughter, who has three
college degrees is now a stay-at-home mother who is trying to keep
up with her 3 and 5 year olds. My older daughter an M.D., PhD is a
physician at our regional medical center here in T.C. My son (after he
got tired of being a ski bum) started and now is sole owner of a food
import business that employs over a hundred people. His company is
located about 40 miles south of Greendale.

In my formative Greendale days, I developed a taste for beer which
I still enjoy along with a strong interest in fishing and hunting. I still
have these interests and actively pursue them but the difference is
that they are no longer free and close to home. In the past I have
been on hunting trips to Russia, Siberia, most of the Western states
and Canada in search of bear, elk, deer, ducks and geese.

Since our last mini-reunion, my son and I went on a fabulous wing
shooting trip to Argentina, I had no problem firing 1000 rounds a
day. Earlier this year we went on a successful but very scary elephant
safari in Botswana. By the way elephant meat is tough, stringy and
quite unpalatable, even when served with barbeque sauce.

This is a great area for fishing and I spend much of the summer on
my boat on Lake Michigan in pursuit of salmon and lake trout. For the
past few years, my son, son-in-laws, the grandsons and I head up to
Canada for our annual "start of the summer" fishing trip.

Life is good and continues to be good. I hope you are all well and
enjoying life wherever you have landed
