Retired 2004 Married 4 Children, 4 Grandchildren |
Since 1954: I worked at Hills Department Store as an audit clerk for five years then at Ladish in Cudahy, for one and a half years, semi-retired three years ago after working for H&R Block for eighteen years. I was also the treasurer for my husband's company from 1971-2007, when we retired the business. I married my husband, Gerald, (a 1950 Greendale High graduate) 53 years ago. Time sure flies. We have four sons and four grandchildren. Both of us have beaten cancer and in 1971 my husband fell and became a paraplegic. Through surgery and a strong determination he was able to walk again. This unfortunate accident taught all of our sons about people with handicaps, how they all needed to work together, take care of each other and themselves. Our traveling has been limited to Puerto Rico, Florida, New York, California and Arizona. Our youngest son has lived in Arizona and now lives in California. When we were younger we did a lot of camping; starting with an 8x8 tent to a 9x9, then to two hard tops. We lived in Milwaukee, Hartford City, Indiana, Indianapolis and the last 38 years in Oconomowoc, I have and continue to volunteer for many groups in different capacities over the years. At present, I am a dispatcher for the Senior Taxi Service, treasurer for our church bazaar plus helping in several other groups. I enjoy gardening, crafting ( I have made over 600 candles for our church bazaar and confirmations), and going to the casino. I still have my class ring and high school sweatshirt. I also have a memory of Walter Heitman giving me my one and only motorcycle ride. One of our sons had three motorcycles and a dirt bike, but I never got a ride from him. I learned to ride a bicycle when I was 32 and got my own bicycle when I was 35. Never too old to learn. |
